About Tsurugaoka

suruoka is one of the five regions of Miyama. And , it is located near the Fukui Prefecture border.
Historically, the area was a stopover point for travelers passing through from Wakasa-Obama to Kyoto.
Tsurugaoka is known as the western Saba-kaido(mackerel road).
Perhaps because of this, despite the closed-off lifestyle deep in the mountains, many people seem to be open-minded, and there is a cheerful and energetic life of the mountain village people.
We wanted to create opportunities for guests at NIPPONIA Miyama Tsurugaoka Mountain Village to interact with the locals, so we designed the entire community to resemble a hotel. The check-in reception is located in a local community store, and dinner is served at a local partner restaurant.
